Over the last few years the cosmetic industry has witnessed a steadily increasing demand for buttock augmentation and body reshaping procedures. I have been researching mainly into the evolving field of Regenerative Medicine and came across an amazing tool, that is designed for the whole body but has also been proven to give excellent results to the buttock areas. This is Lanluma, a powerful collagen stimulator, coming from Sinclair.

Lanluma is an award-winning poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) injectable. It is FDA approved and CE marked. PLLA is a synthetic, biodegradable, biocompatible and immunologically inert product with long history of safe use in numerous applications, such as a suture material. It is a highly efficacious product that we can be used use to activate natural collagen, increase fullness and add volume to the body. Meet My Patient

A 54 years old patient of mine, came in the clinic to discuss her concerns around buttock volume and quality of the skin to the area. An otherwise fit lady, non-smoker, with an active lifestyle and not on any medications. The last few years she had lost more than 8 stones in weight, as she had a gastric band fitted. She had previously had a lipo abdominoplasty and breast augmentation mastopexy to correct the body changes associated with her weight loss and she was quite adamant that she did not want any further surgical solution.

Her main concerns have been around the empty upper part of the buttocks along with droopiness and change in the skin quality, presenting with loose, wrinkly and cellulitic skin. She had been trying to improve things with regular exercise and dietary changes, with not big success.

Clinical examination revealed a healthy buttock anatomy, with normal tone to the gluteal muscles. Skin was felt to be weak with ptosis and cellulite grade 2-3 was present. On the basis that surgical correction with fat-grafting was not an option for her, I offered her treatments with Lanluma aiming to achieve a fuller and lifted buttock with synchronous skin quality improvement. We performed a single session using 2 vials of Lanluma X, which is a total of 1260 mg of poly lactic acid.

Surgical solutions for the buttocks can create some amazing results but apart from the general medical concern and restrictions in the UK, are associated with some drawbacks. They require general anesthetic or sedation, can be costly, are generally associated with longer downtime and potentially significant complications. As a result of the above, patients head more and more towards non-surgical solutions.
